Label
Intentional Gradient Hero — Complete Implementation
Body
.hero {
position: relative;
isolation: isolate;
min-height: 100svh;
display: grid;
place-items: center;
}
/* Mesh atmosphere layer */
.hero::before {
content: '';
position: absolute;
inset: 0;
z-index: -1;
background:
radial-gradient(ellipse at 20% 50%, oklch(0.55 0.12 220 / 0.08) 0%, transparent 60%),
radial-gradient(ellipse at 80% 20%, oklch(0.60 0.09 260 / 0.06) 0%, transparent 55%),
radial-gradient(ellipse at 50% 90%, oklch(0.50 0.10 190 / 0.05) 0%, transparent 50%);
}
/* CTA glow layer */
.hero__cta-area::before {
content: '';
position: absolute;
inset: -80px -40px;
background: radial-gradient(
ellipse at center,
oklch(0.55 0.18 260 / 0.10) 0%,
transparent 65%
);
z-index: -1;
pointer-events: none;
}
Usage
- Apply .hero to the full-viewport hero section wrapper.
- .hero::before supplies the three-node mesh atmosphere — OKLCH values are chosen for perceptual smoothness; do not swap to rgb/hsl.
- .hero__cta-area::before adds a radial glow that halos the primary CTA button area — place .hero__cta-area around the button group.
- Adjust the oklch() lightness (first value) and chroma (second value) to match the page's color persona. Keep opacity values low: 0.05–0.12 for atmosphere, 0.08–0.14 for CTA glow.
- For dark-background heroes, increase chroma slightly (0.15–0.22) and reduce opacity to 0.06–0.10.
- Three gradient nodes at 20%/50%, 80%/20%, and 50%/90% create natural triangular asymmetry — avoid centering all nodes.
Loaded when retrieval picks the atom as a focal / direct hit.
